A.I. Middle School Wins Technology Grant Alexis I. DuPont Middle is one of only three schools in Delaware – and the only non-charter school – to receive a technology grant which will equip the school with new computers and other equipment.
AIMS Principal Theodore Boyer said the school was notified over the summer that they had won a $312,000 Title II eMINTS grant that will be used to purchase technology for the seventh grade class. eMINTS, an acronym for enhancing Missouri’s Instructional Networked Teaching Strategies, is a program which provides grants for classroom technology. It originated in Missouri as a non-profit, independent business unit, but can now be found in over 10 states, as well as in Australia. Last June, seventh grade teachers at AIMS were informed by Red Clay Curriculum and Technology departments of a grant opportunity that would provide students with laptops in their academic classes and equip each classroom with interactive whiteboards and projectors. Additionally, students would have access to printers, scanners and digital cameras. Two teachers signed on immediately to the required 250 hours of professional development and the other 7th grade staff members will invest 90 hours. Mr. Boyer said that equipment would be arriving in stages over the next several weeks and that training would go on through the year. "The staff at A.I. Middle is very excited at the chance to improve student achievement through the use of technology," he said.
